When people who are charged with taking care of special needs adults have to go to work or cannot for some reason take care of the special needs adult, they sometimes will take the special needs adult to an adult day care service. Some adult day care centers provide adult day care services for mentally handicapped or mentally challenged adults. Some adult day care centers specialize in providing care for adults who either have a disabling disease like Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS) or multiple sclerosis or who have been in an accident that has rendered them a quadriplegic or paraplegic. Adult care can range from just having somebody to talk to during the day to having somebody assist a patient who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Each facility will have their own specialty when it comes to what they are more experienced in, and what they are trained to do. Ask each community how long they have been in business, how much a typical month costs, and what services they provide to their residents.
